Purchasing a whole or half beef is the best way to ensure you are getting fresh and local beef. When you purchase from us the beef is butchered on farm and dry aged for 2 weeks or longer (if you choose!). It is then packaged to your needs and specifications you choose on your cut sheet.
Step 1: Prepare
Freezer Space: A half a beef can range from 150 lbs - 250 lbs of take home beef. A 7 cubic ft upright freezer or chest freezer will usually fit a half a beef.
You will also need coolers to pick up your meat. Make sure to bring enough to fit it all! We recommend borrowing from friends if you don't have enough handy.
Cost: (Subject to change) Price is $3.00/lb - $4.00/lb live weight. We can give you an estimate of how much the beef weighs at the time of order, but we won't know the exact weight until it is butchered. A half beef will likely cost $1,000 - $2,000.
Step 2: Learn about the cuts of beef and how you want to cook it
We offer a custom cut of your beef, butchered by the farmer himself! Bruce knows his cattle and butchers and cooks the beef he raises and sells so he can give you the best advice on how to utilize the beef you purchase from our farm. Bruce takes great pride in carrying the animal from birth to finish in order to put good, healthy food on his family's table and yours! Under the BEEF tab you can find how a beef is broken down into cuts as well as methods of cooking those cuts. Read through this before starting to fill out your cut sheet to familiarize yourself with the different cuts. Please call us with any questions you have. Once you have filled out the cut sheet you can email it to us with your order.
Step 3: Payment
We require a 10-20% deposit before we butcher the animal. This can be dropped off at the farm any time before the scheduled butcher date. The balance is paid at pick up.
Step 4: Pick up
We will call you when your beef is ready to pick up. We will have determined the date and time your beef will be ready when you drop off your deposit so be sure you can pick it up at that time. If the are any changes to the schedule we will call you ahead of time. Please pick up your meat at the time determined, we will charge extra for freezer space if you do not make your scheduled pick up time. Understand we are a working farm so if you do not pick up your meat at the scheduled time we cannot ensure our availability to assist you at pickup and you may have to come back.
